Creed III is finally upon us, but unlike the other films in the franchise, this one will give us our first look at Michael B. Jordan both behind and in front of the camera. There’s a lot of buzz around the third movie of the Rocky franchise spinoff, which once again features Jordan as the titular boxer Adonis Creed and also marks his directorial debut.

The next chapter in the Creed franchise follows Adonis’ efforts to maintain and stay true to the legacy of his father, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), who was killed by Ivan Drago, father of his long-term rival Viktor. Creed III will see Adonis Creed as an established boxer who has finally managed to rise to success after years of struggle as an underdog.

The focus of the threequel will be on Creed’s family life as well as the return of his friend from the past, Damien Anderson, with whom Creed will find himself facing off against inside the boxing ring. As the synopsis tells us, “The face-off between the former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian ⏤ a fighter who has nothing to lose.”

The gripping storyline has attracted a lot of attention from fans who are also excited to see what Jordan has to offer as a director. The actor already has an impressive filmography to his name, which obviously includes the previous Creed films as well as a career-defining appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Killmonger in Black Panther. Regarding his role as director for Creed III, Jordan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about why this was the right time to take his shot behind the camera.

“Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. Creed III is that moment – a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment. This franchise and in particular the themes of Creed III are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake.”

With excitement around the film surging, fans are also keen to know when and where they’ll be able to watch it, especially once the film is out of theaters. Here’s what we know about when and where the film will be available to stream.

Creed III‘s original release date was meant to be Nov. 23, 2022; however, the film was postponed, and the new release date became March 3, 2023. (No specific reason was given for the postponement.) With the new theatrical release date set, it is not yet confirmed which streaming platform will ultimately add the film to its roster once it transitions from the big screen to streaming, but fans are already wondering if it will appear on HBO Max.

Even if the traditional 45-day gap between the theatrical release and streaming debut is honored, Creed III is more likely to be released on Prime Video thanks to Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM. It could appear on HBO Max in every other country except the United States, but we’ll know for sure in time.

Until then, Creed III will be released in theaters on March 3, 2023.
