Warning: This article contains spoilers for Black Adam.
DC Films has gotten a lot of things wrong over the years, but one of the decisions they’ve made which was taken with open arms by the fanbase has been casting Henry Cavill as Superman.
Appearing for the first time in Man of Steel before a variety of cameo appearances, DC fans have been calling for more of Cavill in this role but have received mostly radio silence regarding a potential return.
Fortunately, there is some news around this return surfacing now, so if you’re not in the loop here is everything you need to know about Cavill’s status as Superman.
Will Henry Cavill return as Superman?
While everything was pointing to Henry Cavill’s return as Superman, after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over leadership of the DCU it was confirmed that no, he will not be coming back to the role.
In October of 2022, Cavill announced his return to the role after appearing in the post-credits scene of Black Adam and while this seemed to be in the plans at the time, just two months later the actor shared a statement to the contrary.
With the big changes taking place at DC Films a young Superman film is now in the works which Cavill will not be attached to. Furthermore, it spells the end of his time as the hero.
There is a silver lining for Cavill fans as Gunn shared that he has spoken to the star and there are other opportunities for him in the DCU that they may explore. But for now, we can only hope.
