Will Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk Smash His Way Into Captain America: Civil War?

Long before the casting got underway for Captain America: Civil War, long-time Marvel fans knew the threequel would be monumental in just about every category. Then, the studio began filling up the roles thick and fast, with the likes of Martin Freeman, Emily VanCamp and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch all swooping in to join the ensemble. Fast forward to now and it seems as though directors Joe and Anthony Russo ought to reserve a Hulk-sized seat for a special someone.

Long before the casting got underway for Captain America: Civil War, long-time Marvel fans knew the threequel would be monumental in just about every category. Then, the studio began filling up the roles thick and fast, with the likes of Martin Freeman, Emily VanCamp and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch all swooping in to join the ensemble. Fast forward to now and it seems as though directors Joe and Anthony Russo ought to reserve a Hulk-sized seat for a special someone.

That’s according to Mark Ruffalo, who took to Twitter to post the following ambiguous Tweet, leading many to believe that his Hulk will leap back into action once more for the Russo brothers’ feature.

It certainly makes sense for Ruffalo’s rage monster to have a part in the ever-growing ensemble, what with Civil War essentially acting as Avengers 2.5 at this point. However, there is a risk that the film’s expansive cast will prove to be too much of a good thing, and if anything, Age of Ultron showcased how an abundance of characters can lead to many getting shortchanged in the grand scheme of things.

That said, we’ll reserve judgement until the superhero sequel lands in little under a years’ time. If Ruffalo’s Hulk is indeed set to feature, then it’s likely he will have ties to William Hurt’s General Thaddeus Ross, who himself had a role in The Incredible Hulk in 2008 which, despite recasting, is still considered part of the MCU.

It’ll be interesting to see how this casting tidbit pans out over the coming months. Joss Whedon showcased back in 2012 that the burly character is best used sparingly, and even if this alleged role in Civil War is limited, it could help set the stage for Infinity War.

Captain America: Civil War is expected to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2016.
