With just one month to go before the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios have floored their hype accelerator. After months and months of radio silence, we’ve now received a whopping 32 new posters for Endgame, one for each character. In an interesting twist, those who survived Thanos’ snap have color in them, while those who got dusted receive the monochrome treatment.
The release has delivered some depressing revelations for fans, too. Most notably that the breakout character from Black Panther, Shuri, didn’t make it after all. There is some good news, too, though. For example, we’ve now learned that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is still alive, as is Benedict Wong’s uh, Wong. And on a slightly less cosmic note, Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan is in one piece, too.
It’s nice to see Favreau getting his own poster as well. After all, he’s responsible for Iron Man and Iron Man 2, which shaped the future course of the MCU and did an awful lot to set a tone that the movies still have to this day. Once tipped as the director for The Avengers, he fell out with the studio over the plot of Iron Man 2 but has been a recurring curmudgeonly presence in the franchise, helping ground it a bit. I’m not sure exactly what use his bodyguard skills are going to be in the upcoming battle against Thanos, but who knows, maybe Tony has a very special suit of armor hidden away for just this eventuality?
Benedict Wong’s Wong being back, meanwhile, is a little less surprising, but he’s a similarly fun presence in Doctor Strange and Avengers: Infinity War, plus with Strange out of the picture, he’s there to provide insight into the more mystical aspects of the universe that the regular heroes don’t have knowledge of. And we’ll find out exactly what they’re up to when Avengers: Endgame smashes into cinemas on April 26th.
