News arrives alongside the first official image for the drama, whisking both Kristen Stewart and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg back to the ’30s.
Setting sights on Hollywood during the fabled Golden Age, Eisenberg’s aspiring actor arrives in Tinsel Town with the hope of one day cracking into the film industry, where he falls head over heels in love with Stewart’s character. Blake Lively, Parker Posey and Steve Carell are also among the cast.
Cafe Society, reads the official press release, features “two rising stars from Hollywood’s up-and-coming generation, Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg alongside a stellar cast of acclaimed actors including . Stewart climbed the Red Carpet Steps at Cannes in 2012 for On the Road by Walter Salles and then in 2014 for Olivier Assayas’s Clouds of Sils Maria, which earned her a César. Jesse Eisenberg starred in Louder than Bombs by Joachim Trier, In Competition last year.”
Cannes 2016 will kick off with a screening of Woody Allen’s Cafe Society on May 11. From there, the annual film celebration will continue through until May 22, with a theatrical release of Allen’s period drama soon thereafter.
