Yet Another Featurette For Ghost In The Shell Sheds Light On The Major’s Backstory

Learn the story behind Scarlett Johansson's ass-kicking Major in the latest featurette for Rupert Sanders' Ghost in the Shell movie.

Ghost in the Shell is now only three weeks away from its theatrical release, and the promos continue to pour online. Engineered to be the flagship product of Hanka Robotics, Johansson’s one-of-a-kind cyborg is deployed onto the streets of neo-Tokyo with one goal in mind: to stamp out any and all terrorism before it bubbles to the surface. Doing so will force The Major on a one-way collision course with Kuze, the chief antagonist of Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell movie.

Borrowing elements from the iconic Puppet Master, director Rupert Sanders has revealed in the past that Kuze is something of an evil amalgamation, one which seeds inspiration from a handful of enemies found in the pages of Masamune Shirow’s genre-defining manga. As exciting as that is, it does appear Kuze holds some form of connection to The Major’s past, but will Scarlett Johansson’s title lead be able to uncover the truth she (it?) so craves.

Straight Outta Compton scribe Jonathan Herman contributed to the adaptation of Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell, with further revisions from Jamie Moss, William Wheeler and Ehren Kruger.

Ghost in the Shell boots online on March 31st. It hasn’t been the smoothest of journeys to release, what with the backlash against Paramount’s decision to cast Scarlett Johansson in the title role, but can Rupert Sanders’ live-action blockbuster carve out on audience in a few weeks’ time? Time will tell.
