With Justice League‘s theatrical run now being behind it and the home video release imminent, we’re seeing various intriguing bits of trivia popping up online. Just recently, there was a callback to Doomsday noticed and some cool concept art hinting at a deleted scene involving Lex Luthor, but today, we have something for the devout comic book readers among you.
As you’re probably well aware of by now, director Zack Snyder likes to use the source material as a visual bible of sorts, creating dynamic shots whenever he can. Of course, he borrowed generously from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it seems like the inspiration didn’t stop there.
Recently, Film Junkee pointed out that when the Flash tripped during a pivotal action sequence, it looked strikingly like an infamous panel taken from the aforementioned graphic novel. And even though it was Superman featured in the original piece, Zack Snyder did respond by saying “Yes that’s from the Dark Knight Returns.”
Being someone who’s intimately familiar with that particular comic, I must admit that even I didn’t catch the nod, perhaps due to the swapping of characters. Normally when I think of superheroes who showed up in that book, Superman and Green Arrow spring to mind, with the Flash having a sizable role in the sequels, those being The Dark Knight Strikes Again! and Dark Knight III: The Master Race. Regardless, it’s something I’ll keep an eye out for in future viewings.
Justice League is now available digitally, with Blu-ray and DVD releases coming on March 13 (pre-order here). Will you be picking it up? Be sure to let us know by dropping a comment down below.
