For the better part of two years, fans have demanded Warner Bros. release Zack Snyder’s original cut of Justice League. The director left the project toward the back end of production, with Joss Whedon stepping in to take his place, resulting in a tonally jarring CGI spectacle that failed to resonate with critics and audiences.
The studio claims that no version of Snyder’s original movie exists, and what we’ve seen is all we’ll get. However, the director has taken to social media to pretty much refute those claims, dropping brand new images over the weekend that detailed his original plan for the film’s finale.
Earlier this year, rumors flooded the Internet that Superman and Cyborg were both set to meet grisly ends in Snyder’s final Justice League script. The duo would unsuccessfully attempt to separate the Mother Boxes in order to stop Steppenwolf, the power of which would tear them apart. Now we know that thanks to the Flash, our two heroes wouldn’t have stayed dead after their initial failure.
In honor of Father’s Day, Zack Snyder uploaded two brand new, never-before-seen pictures from his final cut of the movie (which, reminder, Warner Bros. swears doesn’t exist). The first picture is of a young Darkseid and the Anti-Life Equation. The second is of Cyborg coming face-to-face with his former-self, bookended by his deceased parents. Alongside the latter image, Snyder provided the following caption:
“Careful Victor… if you go inside the mother boxes they will fuck with you big time that’s not Father’s Day that’s a trick… right after that…when Barry runs time back after The leagues initial failure and uses The Epic jolt of speed force to project Vic into the boxes”
This ending is considerably different from the happier Justice League finale we got. While Cyborg successfully dismantles the Unity of Mother Boxes in the theatrical cut of the film, it sounds like Snyder had a more emotional climax prepared for the character, one that looks just as visually exciting as it is moving.
It’s crushing that Victor’s journey was sidelined for most of the final movie, considering it could have used all of the characterizations it could get. It’s likely that we won’t see much more of Cyborg or Flash in upcoming DCEU properties, as Ray Fisher and Ezra Miller’s contracts have both seemingly expired. In fact, it sounds like the mythical Snyder Cut may be the only chance we’ll ever get to see them take on the characters again.
What about you, though? Do you want to see Zack Snyder’s supposedly lost cut of Justice League, or have you been burned by the DCEU too many times at this point? Let us know in the comments below.
