Yesterday brought our first image from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming Zootopia, and the studio has struck while the iron’s hot yet again to deliver the first teaser for the ambitious pic, which centers on a world populated by anthropomorphic animals, completely devoid of humans and getting along all the better for it.
Jason Bateman’s sly fox Nick Wilde narrates the teaser, which really just serves as an introduction to the titular paradise. It’s clear that Disney feels audiences will need a little time to wrap their heads around the idea of Zootopia, so they’re laying the groundwork early on. It’s a shame that some of the humor seems pretty silly (“like nothing you’ve seen be-fur”), but it’s far too early to really judge what tone the movie will strike.
In Zootopia, Wilde is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, leading him to go on the run to clear his name. Though he’s initially pursued by bunny Lieutenant Judy Hops (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), the two natural enemies join forces when she winds up framed for the same crime.
Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph) teamed to direct the film, raising our expectations for what was already sounding like a very promising title for the currently booming animation studio.
Zootopia opens March 4, 2016.
In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who’s trying to make it big goes on the run when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Zootopia’s top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they’re forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends.
