Commemorating the 14th Anniversary of Biggie’s Death

Fourteen years ago today on March 9th 1997, Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. aka Biggie Smalls was shot and killed in a still unsolved drive-by shooting. The hip hop world lost an icon that day and it signified not only the death of one of the best to ever do it but also the death of an era of music. An era when hip hop was raw and came from the streets. An era when a crack dealer from Brooklyn could blow up and take the world by storm. An era before record labels took total control of the music industry. An era when artists were free to speak from the heart and still be embraced by the radio and the general public.

Biggie Smalls had a gift. He could make gutter raps, pop songs, straight up hip hop songs, party songs, socially conscious songs and story raps, making it all seem effortless while not sacrificing his vision. He influenced an entire generation of rappers and his blueprint can still be felt today.

And so today we remember Biggie Smalls, one of the greatest of all time. “Ain’t no other kings in this rap thing”
