Avicii’s Ten More Days Marks Only Two More Before Stories Hits

The past couple of weeks has been densely packed with major album releases, what with Disclosure, Kaskade and Robin Shulz all releasing full length studio albums on the same day in addition to several others. On Friday, none other than Swedish superstar DJ/producer Avicii will be offering up his own effort, Stories, and he's let one final track from the album slip out to drum up some last-minute buzz.

The past couple of weeks has been densely packed with major album releases, what with Disclosure, Kaskade and Robin Shulz all releasing full length studio albums on the same day in addition to several others. On Friday, none other than Swedish superstar DJ/producer Avicii will be offering up his own effort, Stories, and he’s let one final track from the album slip out to drum up some last-minute buzz.

“Ten More Days” – which is ironically titled, considering that Stories will be coming out in only two more days – features perhaps the most rock-oriented style of the bunch. Bluesy vocals by Zak Abel stand out against the backdrop of a guitar melody in minor pentatonic, making for an unexpected departure from the EDM anthems for which Avicii’s famous.

It’s understandable that the producer would want to branch out from his four-four roots and tap into an infinitely more eclectic array of influences, but “Ten More days” feels too much like it’s a song by another artist. If a musician reaches Avicii’s level of success, it goes without saying that they must be mindful of how these kinds of experiments can alienate their audience when they’re devoid of the artist’s trademarks.

Avicii‘s Stories will be available in its entirety through iTunes on Friday.
