Taylor Swift has officially released her most recent recording, the long-awaited Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) as of July 7. The third out of six, fans have been eagerly waiting to hear 32-year-old Taylor sing 19-year-old Taylor’s words in songs like “Back to December,” “Haunted,” and “Better than Revenge.”
Perhaps the most anticipated is “Dear John,” which is supposedly about John Mayer. Since the release, Swifties have been sharing their reactions on TikTok to the beloved break-up anthem.
Commenters under videos like Katherine Zaino’s seem very divided. Some Swifties are sharing their excitement and nostalgia while others feel disappointed by subtle changes they noticed in the recordings.
“This might be controversial but TV did not have enough angst for me, it’s just not the same” one user commented. Others shared their excitement about the vocalization of certain lines saying, “THE WAY SHE SAYS JOHN OMG.”
One commenter even shared that they thought the new version sounded like AI, although others were quick to respond that it was because “we’re used to the bad sound quality on the old versions.”
The majority of listeners just noted slight differences in sound, emotion, and the maturity of Swift’s voice. It’s also noted that they feel like she’s singing the song from a different perspective now, which may be the reason for certain changes.
Zaino made a response to the commenters complaining about Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), encouraging them to give it another listen.
Despite their complaints, the majority of Swifties have still vowed to listen to Taylor’s Version of the album.
