The soundtrack for the upcoming Barbie movie has been a giant mystery since it was announced, with people guessing which artists will be featured. After weeks of waiting and slow artists reveals, the final track has finally been unveiled.
Mark Ronson, the producer and co-writer for Barbie: The Album, confirmed the final artist that will be featured in the upcoming movie soundtrack via Twitter. He confirmed it is none other than Billie Eilish and the name of her track is called “What Was I Made For?” Ronson describes Eilish as “one of the f***ing greatest living artists around” and claims that she has a “very personal tie to Barbie.”
Prior to this announcement, there was speculation that Sam Smith would be included with his song “Man I Am.” Fans were disappointed that this Grammy-winning artist wasn’t the artist that Ronson was teasing, especially due to the hype that had been built around his upcoming feature.
However, fans claimed that Smith’s song had been registered for Barbie: The Album. As of writing, Tracks 6 and 11 remain a mystery via iTunes, so there may be a chance that Smith may also be featured.
Barbie: The Album was first announced around May 2023. Some of the artists featured in this album include Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Tame Impala, The Kid Laroi, Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, just to name a few. It’s currently unknown if this album will be available in countries that has plans to ban the screening of the film due to a territorial dispute. The Guardian reported that Warner Bros defended the map in question and claimed that it’s just a child-like sketch.
The soundtrack will be released on July 21, 2023, the same day Barbie hits theaters.
