You surely remember when Major Lazer and DJ Snake teamed up on the anthemic “Lean On” a few months ago, since the track and its innumerable remixes have found their way into more DJ sets than is remotely reasonable. Even though he’s a little late to the party, Tiësto has now enlisted the help of one of his proteges, MOTi, to put his own distinctive spin on the song.
Where the original featured its own unique blend of pop, trap and hip-hop elements alongside catchy verses by MØ in a definitively Major Lazer synthesis, the sped-up Tiësto and MOTi remix replaces all but the vocals with big, bold synth stacks put through the signature Tiësto pitch bend (see: “Secrets”). About halfway through, they take the tempo down to that of the original long enough for the chorus to repeat a few times before several measures of claps brings it back up to the deafening roar of the synth lead.
While the Tiësto and MOTi remix of Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s “Lean On” appears not to have been received quite as well as the original, it’s definitely got big room appeal that will ensure it a fair amount of play at main stages throughout the festival circuit.
