We’ve waited a good while for new music fromĀ Zedd, and it looks like the German talent has been hiding some tricks up his sleeves. The EDMĀ superstar recently took to Facebook to announce that a collaboration with singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc was on the way, and what he’s delivered takes something of an unexpected form.
The beginning of “Candyman” is dominated by Blacc’s rich vocals, with only sparse piano chords and subtle pluck synths hinting at Zedd’s signature style. At the hook, however, a sudden shift in the drum pattern spills into a pad synth progression decidedly characteristic of future bass, with a horn section accentuating its melodic peaks.
Seeing as how future bass has been uncharted territory for Zedd up until now, perhaps 2016 will see the young DJ/producer take more creative risks in his productions. Either way, after listening to his and Aloe Blacc’s “Candyman” in the SoundCloud player above, let us know what you think of the track by sounding off in the comments section below.
