After the mixed reception Ubisoft received from fans, following the reveal of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, the creative director for the game confirmed in an interview with Game Informer that the game will actually see a new character brought to the world. But is this too little too late?
Admittedly AC:2 was absolutely fantastic, it took the slightly rugged but winning formula of the first game and developed it enough to be a satisfying purchase despite its flaws. Brotherhood tried to dress up the same game with a few extra bits of bling, and fundamentally kept things cold. The multiplayer saved it from being a sad rehash of safe and tested ideas, and then we star hearing about Revelations and the implication it won’t be very different from the previous game.
The internet in all its wonderful opinions had been enthusiastically speculating about the setting for the next game, suggesting the most delightfully wild and intriguing things. Everyone assumed that Ubisoft had had their fun in the renaissance now, and would move on with their heads held high. Apparently not.
The important thing to cling to here though is the solid confirmation that AC:3 (whenever they decide to release it) will be that big change and evolution that is desperately needed. Whether Revelations will be little more than an shinier iteration of AC:2 is yet to be discovered, either way I’m saving my excitement for the fully fledged third entry.
