Back in 2014, before The Chainsmokers had crossed over into the realm of pop with songs like “Roses” and “Don’t Let Me Down,” the duo appeared on American Idol to perform their first big single, “#SELFIE.” While they probably thought this was a wise career move at the time, their stint on the singing competition is generally viewed as something of an embarrassment for Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, with many fans calling them “sell outs” following the show. Now that their fame has reached an all time high, though, it appears The Chainsmokers are hoping to bury their American Idol performance in the past.
The official video of The Chainsmokers’ American Idol set has been removed from YouTube in an attempt to clean up their image now that they’ve become one of the hottest acts in music today. Considering the career milestones the two producers have surpassed in the last year alone, you can’t really blame them for wanting to progress past an early blunder in their development as DJs turned hit makers.
Of course, this is the internet we’re talking about, so The Chainsmokers may have more trouble sanitizing their past than they anticipate; a number of rips of the American Idol show are still available on YouTube, and we’ve included one such video above for your viewing pleasure.
