Charli XCX is getting into the Halloween spirit in the music video for her brand new single, “After the Afterparty,” which she released last week. Featuring zombies, dance parties, and random body parts galore, the video would make for great hype material if there ever happened to be an undead apocalypse.
The clip stars Charli and her zombie friends making the most of the night, presumably after an after party, and director Diane Martel helps the living dead rise once again. Martel is probably best known for her videos for songs like “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus or “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, so enlisting a director of her calibre to take creative control of such a fun video idea definitely worked out in the end. Guest vocalist Lil Yachty makes an appearance, too, of course, and it just isn’t a party unless he arrives.
“After the Afterparty,” despite its Halloween-themed video, is anything but terrifying. The sugary sweet pop song is the first single from Charli XCX’s upcoming album, which she says will be coming out in May. It’s a long wait, but she tells Zane Lowe that she might just go ahead and leak it ahead of time, so keep your eyes (and ears) open in the future.
