Movement Detroit has announced the official stages and set times of its 2015 installment, and the festival promises to be an electronic music spectacle for the books. Spread across six stages curated by the event’s own organizers as well as the likes of Beatport and Thump, the official lineup features seminal dance music icons like Richie Hawtin and Maceo Plex alongside contemporaries such as Dog Blood (Skrillex and Boys Noize) and Disclosure.
Having changed its name three times since its 2000 inception, Movement began as the city of Detroit’s first full-fledged electronic music festival – one that largely celebrated techno, arguably the first alternative dance music genre which was conceived in the same city.
In the face of a burgeoning scene which has come to favor more mainstream sounds as time has gone by, Movement’s managed to continue its legacy of celebrating underground dance music. In fact, it even has an entire stage billed as “Underground,” which will feature performances by the likes of Ben Klock, Nina Kraviz and Matador. Amid a growing pool of festivals apparently aiming to be carbon copies of one another, we find it refreshing to see a one of the pioneers stick to their guns and represent the sounds of dance music’s formative years.
