It’s showtime for Incredibles 2, the latest Pixar film directed by Brad Bird. After 14 years of waiting, this is one sequel with quite a lot of hype to live up to, so listen to this week’s Cinemaholics to find out where we stand on it. Special guest Skyler Shuler of The DCast joins us as well for a super-detailed (and spoiler-free) breakdown of everyone’s favorite superhero family’s second big screen outing.
But before we get into the featured review, there’s some quick talk about the John Lasseter controversy at Pixar, followed by a spoiler-free discussion of Bao, the new Pixar short film that plays before Incredibles 2. Later in the show, meanwhile, we cover a ton of Mini Reviews, starting with Tag, the “inspired by a true story” action comedy about a group of friends (Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress, Jake Johnson, and Jeremy Renner) who’ve been playing the same game of “tag” for 30 years.
Will also reviews the first season of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, a new Freeform show from one of the writers of Daredevil on Netflix, while Jon talks about one of his favorite movies of the year, First Reformed, an A24 drama starring Ethan Hawke directed by Paul Schrader. Finally, we dive into some quick thoughts about Hereditary and Ocean’s 8 (which was covered in more detail last week) and Jon shares his beating heart for Hearts Beat Loud, starring Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons.
