The internet was rocked when Valve announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive back in August. As more and more information trickles down to the fact-hungry gamers, the early 2012 release date seems ever farther. Like today, when Valve announced they’veĀ enlisted the help of the modders who created the popular “Gun Game” mod for a newly revealed Arsenal mode.

For those unfamiliar with the mod, it’s a certain gametype that sees gamers begin with the lowest weapon on the artillery food chain. As the player racks up kills, more efficient (and arguably more fun) weaponry becomes available. The mod is particularly popular in reverse as well, which sees players begin with the strongest gun, and go all the way down to performing the final kill with a knife.

We don’t know much more than that, other than the Arsenal modes “Demolition” and “Arms Race” will add eight more maps to the download-only game. It’s safe to say we can expect to hear more as we approach 2012.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as PC and Mac via Steam in early 2012.

What say you, gamers? Isn’t it great to see a company like Valve supporting the mod community?
