Variety is reporting that EDM star Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, has been found dead today at age 28.
No cause of death has been released yet, but the artist struggled with health problems for years. He retired from live performances back in 2016 and though he continued to make music in the time since, he’d kept mostly quiet over the last little while – though many hoped that one day he would return to doing live shows.
Details surrounding his death are still scarce, but the following statement was released by his management:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their needfor privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.
Easily amongst the most influential DJs out there, Avicii is often credited for helping to bring electronic dance music into the mainstream, along with other heavy hitters such as Calvin Harris, Tiesto, and Swedish House Mafia. His tracks “Levels,” “Wake Me Up,” “Hey Brother,” “Silhouettes,” and more helped solidify him as one of the most exciting artists around and brought him incredible levels of success, fame and fortune.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Avicii‘s friends and family at this difficult time, and as soon as more comes to light, we’ll be sure to let you know.
