Extraction 2 looks to have told Extraction 1 to “hold my beer” when it comes to mind-blowing crazy action exploits. Chris Hemsworth performed some of his most daring stunts in the 2020 release, including a 12-minute of Tyler Rake and the camera operator as they move fluidly through the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh, engaging in hand-to-hand combat and jumping from rooftops.
However, audiences should get ready for even more jaw-dropping stunts. Director Sam Hargrave, associate of the Russo brothers on several MCU films and best known as the stunt coordinator for those films, has just revealed that they set Chris Hemsworth on fire in Extraction 2 in a sequence billed as “The craziest oner in cinema history.”
The exciting teaser trailer hinted at this scene, promising an action-packed prison break with many explosions and fire. Speaking to Empire, Hargrave says:
“For me, the image of Chris Hemsworth beating the shit out of a bunch of prisoners, while on fire, in the snow was something that I couldn’t pass up. And hats off to Chris. It wasn’t CG fire. And he had to do it over and over. I don’t know a lot of people, let alone Hollywood A-listers, who are gonna let you light them on fire while on camera.”
Hemsworth’s performance in Extraction indicates his dedication to acting and drive to produce credible action scenes, and his charm and physique make him a perfect fit for the role of Tyler Rake. Combine that with Hargrave, a former stunt performer who has staged numerous jaw-dropping realistic fight sequences (including many for Chris Evans’ Captain America scenes), and you have the makings of a blockbuster.
