After the turn of the year, artists spanning the entire electronic music spectrum have put out new tracks and remixes to start 2016 off on a strong note. As the end of January approaches, it almost feels as though Galantis realized that they hadn’t released anything of the sort – because what they”ve finally brought to the table comes across as an according rush job.
Teaming up with Toronto, Ontario DJ/producer Maxum, the Swedish duo have put out a variation in production of their 2015 track “Peanut Butter Jelly.” The original track was certainly a memorable part of their debut album, but the VIP’s edits are so inconsequential that you have to wonder why they even needed to include another artist in their creative process.
That said, Maxum’s music is undervalued by its own merit. If the “collaboration” serves no greater purpose than putting his name out there due to Galantis’ celebrity, then it’s a worthwhile endeavor for that alone.
And then again, maybe there’s an understated genius to Galantis and Maxum’s “Peanut Butter Jelly” VIP that’s over our heads. Listen to the track in the SoundCloud player above and let us know what you think by commenting down below.
