The Last of Us is cementing itself as the must-watch television event of 2023, with its first two episodes seeing overwhelmingly positive reviews. Now is the time for the plot to move in motion, and we have a preview of episode three.
We’re all now well-acquainted with Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and with the unfortunate death of Tess, we’re down to just two protagonists in this cruel apocalypse. The third episode’s preview trailer showcases the biggest threat to their mission, as Nick Offerman’s Bill is set to debut.
Offerman, very much looking and feeling like a post-apocalyptic Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation, is doing an awful lot of foreboding dialogue and showdown stares. Setting him up as a cruel survivalist type who has spent years off the grid, it’s looking like yet another strong bit of casting.
The best thing you can possibly say about this series is even people who have played the game countless times are still getting immensely excited for the series. Whether or not it will indeed sweep this year’s Emmys as everyone is already predicting remains to be seen. But it’s looking pretty likely right now.
The Last of Us no doubt is succeeding in part due to the original creative team of Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin reprising their roles for the adaptation. Who’d have thought good writing and direction could transcend mediums so easily?
New episodes of The Last of Us will drop every Sunday evening, with the season to consist of nine episodes in total.
