What does she mean by that?

The casting director for The Witcher has fans scratching their heads over her refusal to comment on Henry Cavill’s exit from the show.

When Cavill announced that he would be departing from his role as Geralt of Rivia back in October last year, fans were shocked. Rumors circulated as to why the actor had left with reports suggesting he and the writers just didn’t see eye to eye. Naturally, a fan petition was set up to bring him back and have the showrunners beheaded or something along those lines. As is normally the way with fan petitions, it got nowhere.

However, while sitting down for an interview with Deadline, Sophie Holland (the casting director for multiple successful shows including Wednesday, You, The Continental, and, of course, The Witcher) was asked about Cavill’s decision to leave. Her lack of an answer feels like an answer in itself, but it’s still not entirely clear.

“I probably won’t comment on that one. I’d love to, but I won’t. I really look forward to seeing what Liam brings. He has a big fanbase. Season four will be a nice mix of new characters and returning faces.”

The world of showbiz is filled with tripwires and traps that can get a casting director into all sorts of trouble if she says the wrong thing, so, in all likelihood, Holland was just covering her back by not revealing too much. However, it does imply that Cavill may not have left on the best of terms. The fallout from all of this has left a dark cloud looming over Netflix’s Witcher adaptation, and Holland’s remark hasn’t exactly dispelled that cloud.

While we may never get answers regarding the whole Cavill drama, the team behind the Netflix adaptation is clearly still excited for what’s to come in season four. But whether the fans are willing to give it a chance with Liam Hemsworth in Henry Cavill’s place is another story.
