In case you hadn’t heard, Marvel kicked off their latest initiative last month, thereby relaunching many of their marquee titles under the “Fresh Start” banner. No doubt capitalizing on some of this year’s biggest blockbuster films, books such as Avengers, Venom, Thor and Black Panther are rolling back to #1 in order to provide accessible jumping on points, to name but a few.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s golden boy joined the party as well, once again being granted his own series in the form of Tony Stark: Iron Man. Introspective as it sounds – and it probably will be – it makes sense to actually put Tony’s name in the title and begin anew, as we’ve seen the likes of Riri Williams and even Victor Von Doom under the helmet in recent years.
To the surprise of few, Stark decided to get the ball rolling in short order, introducing a new armor in the debut issue of his latest title. This is something he hasn’t been a stranger to doing in the past, of course, as readers often expect for writers to come up with some sort of crazy technology to illustrate Shellhead as being far ahead of the curve.
Well, this week, our hero proved that Giant-Man isn’t the only one who can go to mega-sized extremes by unveiling the “Fin Fang Foombuster” armor, which is quite different from the Hulkbuster and Thorbuster we’ve seen in years prior.
Despite not being totally effective, Stark’s nod to Pacific Rim should provide True Believers enough incentive to stick it out for the foreseeable future. I mean, if the premiere was this nuts, think of what else Dan Slott may have up his sleeve!
Tony Stark: Iron Man #1 is now available in comic shops.
