Kanye West and Drake are having the year of their lives, as both artists have been going above and beyond in whatever venture they take part in. Both released great albums – Drake with Views and West with The Life of Pablo – and both are touring around the continent with live shows that can create a new headline after every date. So, what else could the two take part in that would increase their legendary status even more? A collaborative album, which according to West in an interview with Vogue, is “coming up soon.” No big deal, right?
“We’re just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio,” West said. “We’re working on an album, so there’s some exciting things coming up soon.”
Rumors of a Drake and West album have been circulating for a while, and neither rapper has backed away from that rumor mill. Back in August at Drake’s OVO Fest, West joined Drake on stage and asked the crowd if they were “ready for this album,” clarifying that he “wasn’t talking about Pablo” and “wasn’t talking about Views,” while the two pointed at each other. Additionally, Drake spoke with Zane Lowe earlier this year, saying that he and West “were supposed to do a mixtape together” and “it’s all about finding a place for it.”
It seems like they may have finally found a place. A Kanye West and Drake album would surely break the entire Internet, and even though it might seem like an ambitious project, it’s nothing that those two couldn’t handle. It helps that they’ve collaborated numerous times in the past, like when West featured on Drake’s “Forever” and “Pop Style,” so we already know their voices go together on the same track nicely. The two are also no strangers to collaborative albums either, as West and Jay Z dropped Watch The Throne in 2011 while Drake linked up with Future last year for What A Time To Be Alive.
No word yet on whether this project, which is basically confirmed at this point, is going to be considered a mixtape or a full-blown album, but with Kanye West’s Cruel Winter compilation out next year and an additional planned mixtape from Drake, there will certainly be no shortage of new music from the two rap icons.
