Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is the surprise hit of the season, encouraging even non-fantasy fans to flood to theaters to lay witness to its glory.

And glorious it is. The film is a wonderful marriage of humor, action, and DnD homages, and its only getting more popular as audiences at large seize the chance to see it for themselves. The looming potential for it to be the first of many is certainly tantalizing, as viewers begin to fall in love with the expansive, magical world of Dungeons & Dragons.

Its far too rare that we get genuinely good fantasy content, after all, so fans of the genre are extremely open to the idea of more releases in the vein of Honor Among Thieves. Despite this, not everyone is on board with news of an HBO reboot of the Harry Potter books — but not for the reasons you might think. Sure, J.K. Rowling’s continued profiteering and the short amount of time that’s passed since 2011’s Deathly Hallows: Part II are factors, but more people are ready to come to blows over the Harry Potter vs Percy Jackson debate. It’s been ongoing for awhile now, and news that a pair of reboots will be vying for our attention at similar times is only deepening the divide between fandoms.

One group of fans remains closer than ever, as the campaign to bring back Warrior Nun rages on. Months have passed since the show was canceled, and some viewers lost hope long ago, but not the show’s most ardent Halo bearers. Nor is show runner Simon Barry ready to hang his head in defeat — in fact, he’s an ardent supporter of the campaign. He recently re-asserted his backing, and his support of a fresh billboard calling for the show to return.

There’s really no comparing Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, but people online are certainly willing to try.

The entirely separate fantasy series both follow young, powerful people with impressive destinies as they grow and learn, but that’s pretty much par for the course for every YA fantasy out there. See the below show as an example. Despite this, fans of either franchise took news of a Harry Potter reboot as an official signal to once again debate which series reigns supreme.

Another billboard adds to the ever-growing Warrior Nun campaign

Yet another billboard is bringing attention to the battle to save Warrior Nun, which was canceled after two seasons on Netflix. Fans of the series are fighting tooth and nail to see it return — regardless of which streaming platform picks it up — and the series show runner, Simon Barry, is entirely on board. He’s been sharing his support and love with the fandom for months now, and once again threw his weight behind the campaign after a billboard appeared in Brazil with the familiar #SaveWarriorNun plastered across it.

The Shape of Water reignites debate as it hits its stride on streaming

Guillermo del Toro’s 2017 film The Shape of Water, amusingly referred to by the director himself as “the fish-f*cking movie,” is once again seizing the spotlight. The film got plenty of attention in its own right, and pulled in a solid audience during its time in theaters, but it is the controversy that surrounded its release that largely helped the film stay in conversations. Accusations of plagiarism never went anywhere, and fans still have plenty of love for the flick — as is showcased by its rapid rise on streaming.

Movies and shows based on games are all the rage at the moment, thanks in large part to the broad success of The Last of Us and Honor Among Thieves. The two releases are showcasing just how great a game-based story can be, and prompting excitement for the future of either franchise.

Of all the games out there, DnD is one of the most expansive. The mega-popular tabletop game has been going strong for decades now, and there’s plenty more story potential to dive into post-Honor Among Thieves. One of the film’s stars, Rege-Jean Page, is already looking to the future of what could easily be a cinematic universe, and imagining all the wonderful stories it has yet to tell.
