It’s not all that often that somebody comes along who can remix a Porter Robinson song and truly pay it justice, but Mat Zo has proven himself capable of such an undertaking. The recently controversial progressive trance DJ/producer has turned out a remix of Robinson’s “Flicker” that brings a host of new elements to the already poignant production.
The underlying melody and eerie Japanese samples remain constant from the original to Mat Zo’s version, but a subtle dubstep rhythm slowly pulls it into an all-out drum and bass opus with keen progressions and contemplative bridge sections. Overall, the updated production elements transform an already powerful track into a genre-bending journey for the senses, proving that Mat Zo’s recent troubles haven’t inhibited him as a producer.
Meanwhile, Robinson also has eleven other remixes of tracks off of Worlds on the way – from the likes of ODESZA, Sleepy Tom and San Holo, to name a few.
