It’s been a pretty explosive week in music as Daft Punk brought a three year silence to an end with the delivery of their new collaboration with The Weeknd titled “Starboy.” While the song itself has garnered mixed reception from fans and critics alike, it’s also helped to establish The Weeknd as a prime vocalist in electronic music. Having previously worked with Disclosure and with a Cashmere Cat collab to his name, the Canadian R&B singer is quickly becoming a go to choice for dance music producers.
Now that “Starboy” has been released, naturally, the question on everyone’s mind is who will The Weeknd pair up with next? Personally, we’re crossing our fingers that he’ll take deadmau5 up on his offer to collaborate. EDM’s favorite rodent had taken to Twitter back in May to share an unreleased tune, while challenging The Weeknd to handle vocal duties for the track. His offer went without a public response, but that doesn’t mean the collaboration won’t still happen at some point.

Despite the “Strobe” producer’s outspoken criticism of fellow electronic musicians who team up with pop singers, we wouldn’t mind seeing the two hit the studio together. There’s no telling at this point if a deadmau5/The Weeknd joint effort will ever surface, but we’ll keep hoping for the best in the meantime.
