Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” quickly became a song that you couldn’t escape, and now its got the chart position to prove it. Dethroning The Chainsmokers’ smash “Closer,” the hip-hop song best known as the soundtrack to the viral “Mannequin Challenge” sensation is the new number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
If you’ve seen this “Mannequin Challenge” in any capacity over the past few weeks, you’ve probably heard the track. While there’s no real reason why “Black Beatles” acts as the background music for it, it seems like everyone can’t get enough of the catchy trap song – even Beatle himself, Paul McCartney, who also decided to hop on the “Mannequin Challenge” bandwagon.
“Black Beatles” relieves “Closer” after 12 weeks at the number one spot, and it’s going to be interesting to see if the group can keep the hype alive … or if the song’s success will wither away once its challenge trend inevitably dies, too. However, it isn’t like Rae Sremmurd were a bunch of nobodies to begin with – despite only being in their early 20’s, the brother duo already have a Platinum record, and with their recently released album, SremmLife 2, it doesn’t seem like the success is going to stop there.
