Using a Jedi mind-trick, Bioware has officially announced the Star Wars: The Old Republic Collector’s Edition in sunny San Diego. It was previously outed when a listing was posted on GameStop’s website, pinning a hefty $150 price tag on the special set.

Your investment will secure you the following items:

Metallic case
Gentle Giant Darth Malgus statue
The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural
Map
Game soundtrack
Seven in-game items, including an exclusive Collector’s Edition only store

Adding onto these perks are GameStop exclusive bonuses. They include a “colour stone” to change your lightsaber’s colour (which has also been recently discovered on a Polish retailer’s listing) and early access. Very tempting to say the least, even though we don’t know how early big spenders will be able to get in, or the game’s release date.

Bioware has also confirmed the existence of an Origin-exclusive Star Wars: The Old Republic Digital Deluxe Edition, which will have all of the in-game extras as well as 30 days of game time. As expected, it won’t contain any of the retailer exclusive content.

Although I’ve never really gotten into the world of massively multiplayer online gaming, this game is very, very tempting. Being a big Star Wars fan, I’ll probably end up picking it up and diving in. The Old Republic certainly does look very badass, and much more interesting than any other MMORPG.

Also, these special editions certainly sound fancy, but the price tag is a bit too hefty for me to swallow, especially when I can get two or three full games for that price.

In addition to this news, Bioware has also announced upcoming beta testing weekends for the game. Starting in September, selected participants will be able to test out the game for the Edmonton-based developer. If you’re interested, you’d better hurry over to its website to sign-up because, as of March, it already had one and a half million registered applicants.

May the force be with you.
