RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom” is the kind of song that only comes along once in a great while. With hazy synth chords, ethereal vibes and some celestial vocals, the Australian trio made a splash on electronic music fans when their alt-dance single was first heard last year. Following up on Lane 8’s minimalistic techno remix, Sasha is now taking on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s dreamy anthem with a surprisingly downtrodden rework.
Sasha’s “Innerbloom” remix features an unexpectedly melancholy vibe, totally transforming the uplifting synth chords and dreamy quality that made the original such an instant success. The vocals from the original are set against a minor key backdrop with somber synth arpeggios, droning ambience and old school drum machine rhythms. The song’s timeline clocks in at nearly eleven minutes in length, and Sasha uses this staggering time frame to introduce a slew of evolving sounds that enter the mix in a haunting fashion.
Sasha earns some props with his remix for managing to do the seemingly impossible and make an uplifting dance tune like “Innerbloom” work as a pensive and sorrowful techno workout. If you’re digging it, you can grab a copy of the remix here.
