Last month, a low quality preview hit the internet that purported to be a sample of an upcoming collaboration between Skrillex and rapper MIA. Now, the full version of the pair’s efforts is available for streaming, giving fans the chance to hear “Go Off” in its entirety.
“Go Off” features MIA’s heavily auto-tuned rapping over a characteristically world-influenced backbeat. Like many of his high profile collaborations, Skrillex allows his production to take the back burner to add emphasis to the vocal elements. The music is simple, with catchy tribal beats and a repeating middle eastern melody, creating an entrancing rhythm to support MIA’s flow.
The track is a solid release, though nothing particularly ground breaking for either artist involved. The nature of the collaboration is an interesting one however, as MIA’s career was originally thrust into the limelight with the Diplo produced “Paper Planes,” so it only seems natural that the rapper would team up with the other half of Jack Ü.
“Go Off” is set to feature on MIA’s upcoming album AIM, which she has stated will be her last.
