This past week at PlayStation Destination, Canadian video game retailer Future Shop revealed a poster for a LittleBigPlanet kart racing game for the PlayStation 3. Instead of staying silent, or giving the standard, “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation” line, Sony surprisingly confirmed on their Twitter account that LittleBigPlanet Karting “is in fact in development.”
Sony added that they “look forward to sharing more on the game soon,” but didn’t reveal any further details about the racer in the Tweet. A Future Shop representative, however, did give out one other bit of information, saying that LittleBigPlanet Karting will ship with a “PlayStation Move compatible steering wheel.”
Considering that Sackboy has become Sony‘s most widely recognized mascot in recent years, it’s not surprising that they are starting to go the “Mario route” with him by expanding the franchise into other genres. Let’s just hope that like Nintendo, Sony recognizes that not everyone is going to want to play the kart racer using motion controls and includes options for those of us who prefer analog sticks for steering.
