Tomorrowland already ranks as one of the biggest music events on earth, but the Belgium based festival has unveiled plans to up the ante for their next affair. 2016’s edition of the major festival brand saw some major impact on social media, due in part to expansion to their live streaming efforts, and next year’s event is slated to be even bigger as Tomorrowland reveals its plans to extend across a second weekend in 2017.
While the news of Tomorrowland’s expansion has some pretty big implications for the festival, it won’t represent the first time it’s taken over a second weekend. To coincide with their tenth anniversary, Tomorrowland 2014 was granted permission to run across two weekends, a move that went down with major success.
Representatives of the festival have released a statement regarding the expansion plans, explaining the motivation behind the move to a two weekend based event.
The purpose of [hosting the festival in 2 weekends] is to meet the huge demand for tickets from international and local fans. Meanwhile, with the blessing of the municipalities of Boom & Rumst, we can go ahead and start preparing for 2 weekends as of next summer.
Tomorrowland 2017 is scheduled to go down from July 21-23 for the first weekend, followed by the second weekend from July 28 through 30. Fans will no doubt be pleased to see the festival doubling down, presenting more opportunities to grab tickets to one of the most popular events of the year.
The news has been confirmed by a number of Dutch publications, some of which have stated all future events will span across two weekends. Attendance is expected to double next year with the expansion, and Tomorrowland 2017 is already shaping up to be an unforgettable moment in the festival brand’s history.
