Small screen fantasy is here to stay, folks. In a recent press release by late author Robert Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal, it was revealed that an “official announcement” about an upcoming TV series based off of The Wheel of Time books will be shared soon. So, it’s official, just not officially official yet.
Here’s a quick piece of McDougal’s announcement:
“Wanted to share with you exciting news about The Wheel of Time. Legal issues have been resolved. The Wheel of Time will become a cutting edge TV series! I couldn’t be more pleased,” McDougal wrote. “Look for the official announcement coming soon from a major studio.”
The Wheel of Time series has a large fanbase, and is pretty expansive as it currently stands. Not counting various prequels and companion novels, there are fourteen books in the series. The massive franchise (most books easily reach 1,000 pages) tells the tale of a quest to find the Dragon Reborn and, of course, stop an evil entity known as the Dark One.
The biggest question mark in the reveal by McDougal is the network the show will land on. Undoubtedly some adult themes will be included, so maybe places like Showtime or even Cinemax would be interested in joining in on the fantasy craze following Game of Thrones.
Either way, we’ll keep an eye on news surrounding The Wheel of Time adaptation, so stay tuned.
