With U.S.Avengers finally making its debut this week, it comes as no surprise that such an ambitious new title would make changes to the Marvel status quo. One that we can’t help but to discuss is the introduction of a new Red Hulk.
That’s right. Not only has Jennifer Walters stepped up to claim the proper Hulk mantle as of late, but there’s a new brute of the red variety in town. If you’re a fan of Thunderbolt Ross, you may find yourself a bit disappointed, but we all know the publisher certainly loves to shake things up these days.
The new Red Hulk is, in fact, none other than General Robert L. Maverick, who is making use of a “Hulk Plug-in,” something that unfortunately didn’t arrive in time for Christmas. In short, it affords its user the power of half a Hulk, but for one hour every day and a half – “the hour of power” – one gets to go “full Hulk.” Try not hearing that statement being spoken in the voice of Robert Downey Jr.’s character in Tropic Thunder.
Elsewhere in this issue, be sure to catch Danielle Cage, who happens to be the female Captain America that has had many fans talking. Being the daughter of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage from an alternate future, this adds a new level of sci-fi craziness to the story. One can only wonder what her first encounter with Steve Rogers will be like, an event that is likely to take place sooner rather than later.
U.S.Avengers #1 is now available in comic shops everywhere.
