Oooh, this one’s a controversial doozy. The dramatic Bravo reality tv series The Real Housewives of New York has never made for calm and gentle viewing. Fans of this show know that they’re in for a rollercoaster of a ride when they tune in to see these ladies snipe at each other over issues both real and imagined (and fueled by alcohol).
The latest season has returned with entirely new cast members following Season 13. Why is there a new cast? Because the entire previous cast was cut loose and a whole new group of housewives was hired to replace them!
Brynn Whitfield was named one of the new Housewives following Bravo boss Andy Cohen’s statement that he wants the cast to reflect the diversity of New York, where the series is filmed. While deciding on a new cast, Cohen, who is Jewish, stated, “We are searching for a multicultural group of friends who really best reflect the most exciting city in the country.”
So far, so good, right? Well, the road to heck is paved with good intentions. In the latest season, ethnicity and bigotry are a hot topic among both viewers and the cast because of a major disagreement between two cast members over dating within their own community.
So, who is the well-dressed and attractive Brynn Whitfield? Whitfield has a career in brand marketing and communications and she calls herself a “trophy wife in training” in her Bravo bio. She is also a certified yoga instructor.
On Instagram, Whitfield shows off her clothes and her interests, including art, opera, and travel.
She is good friends with fellow Bravolebrities Ken Todd and Lisa Vanderpump, who Whitfield claims took great care of her when she moved to L.A. from New York (she’s originally from the Midwest).
Whitfield stated, “[Vanderpump] and Ken [Todd] took care of me, like they fed me when I like had no money, like they were amazing,” Brynn said. “I was making no money, and she gave me a place to stay; they basically like gave me a Range Rover, and they’re like, ‘Honey, do you need anything?’ Literally, that was it. Like, insane. They kept me alive for my first two years in LA.”
So, fans want to know: what is Brynn Whitfield’s ethnicity? Although she hasn’t spoken a lot about her biracial heritage yet, she is half Black.
The race-based controversy on RHONY took place between Whitfield and her fellow cast member, Orthodox Jew Lizzy Savetsky, who herself was a victim of bigotry because of “constant antisemitism attacks against her and her family.” She also left the show because of her fight with Whitfield.
The two co-stars had a conversation in which Whitfield asked Savetsky to set her up on a date with a Jewish man, and Savetsky said she preferred to set up Jewish people within their own community.
The two women allegedly continued their conversation off-camera in a private phone conversation, during which Whitfield allegedly used the N-word while discussing racism. Whitfield felt she was being set up as the person who used that word instead of Whitfield, and left the show. Whitfield remains a cast member on the series.
Fans can watch Brynn Whitfield in the latest season 14 of RHONY, which debuted on July 16, 2023.
