‘Can you let go of my hand?’: An airport prankster gets a little too up close and personal with fellow flyers

What ever happened to staying out of people's bubbles?

If there’s anything to miss about the COVID-era protocols we saw, it’s forcing people to stay 6 feet or more away from each other. Personal space is a necessity, especially in uncomfortable situations like travelling. So of course the pranksters on TikTok are making jokes about invating people’s personal space.

User @_funnymarco posted a video showing himself getting too friendly with some fellow passengers awaiting their flights. It starts off innocent enough; Marco goes up to a random passenger, shakes his hand, and starts making small talk about where they’re flying to. The soon-to-be victim thinks nothing of it, assuming Marco is just an overly friendly guy looking to make friends.

Then as the other passenger starts to pull away from the conversation, Marco refuses to let go of their hand. Even worse, as both passengers look at Marco and ask him to let go of their hand, Marco denies any involvement, claiming the other person is the one refusing to let go. Think of the Titanic raft scene, but much more awkward because no one wants to be holding on to begin with.

Like most prank videos online, the comments are split on whether this is actually funny or not. Some are cringing on behalf of the victims, like one commentor going “I’m getting second hand embarrassment! I could not!” Others are pitying them, with another thinking “Them people not going to trust a handshake again.” One commentor is even daring Marco to take these antics to Philly, as we’ve seen the city of brotherly love can be a bit crazy, to say the least.

But most of the comments are dying at the reactions of Marco’s two victims. “You gotta let go first, I’m crying” said one commentor, laughing at the second guy’s reaction. Another commentor is calling out the haters, saying “Why you turning red, Marco funny asf.” Heck, half the comments are just people using the crying-laughing emoji. With an appeal like that, we wouldn’t be surprised if Marco pulls this stunt again at a different airport.
