What happened to games on Snapchat – have they been removed?

Snapchat chalked the decision up to financial reasons.

For a short period of time, Snapchat wanted to follow in the footsteps of every other social media platform (okay, not really) and introduced Snap Games in 2019. By 2021, Snap Games had accumulated over 200 million users, all of whom were taking part in dozens of interactive games. If Snapchat no longer advertises the feature, it’s because it was discontinued, as confirmed by the official Snapchat support website.

Before it was removed, Snap Games hosted all sorts of free-to-play interactive titles, such as Bitmoji Party, Snake Squad, Tiny Royale, Aquapark, and Alphabear Hustle, to name a few.

In response to a tweet from an enraged user, the Snapchat Support Twitter account wrote: “Hi there. Games and Minis are no longer available. We’ll be bringing more focus to other Snapchat products and features that will be beneficial to creators and content viewers.”

Snapchat claims to be refocusing its efforts to promote content creators on the platform, but there’s certainly a sour reception from the Snappers of the world, who aren’t entirely convinced that removing Snap Games was the smartest executive decision. At the time when Snap Games was active, chats would display a rocket icon, which users could tap on to initiate a game with their friends.

Although users are begging for it, there seems to be a slim chance of Snap Games returning. According to ScreenRant, a filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission on Aug. 26, 2022, reveals that “Snapchat’s parent company Snap had discontinued its investments in Snap Originals, Minis, Games, and the Pixy drone.”

Although it seemed like a good investment, Snapchat appears to be discontinuing Snap Games for financial reasons. There aren’t too many alternatives out there, but for iOS users, there’s GamePigeon, which offers a whole host of fun games such as 8-Ball Pool, Cup Pong, Checkers, and more.
