The NBA Draft is tomorrow night, and the only sure thing seems to be that the New Orleans Hornets will take Kentucky one and done Power Forward/Center Anthony Davis. The 6’11” Davis is as sure a thing as there’s been in the NBA draft. He has the potential to be a game changing defensive player, and offensively he has the full face up game with range and the ability to dribble. But after the Hornets secure their franchise player, the Charlotte Bobcats will be on the clock with no consensus player waiting to turn their franchise around.
The Bobcats have already been active by acquiring Ben Gordon and a future draft pick from the Detroit Pistons for Correy Maggette, and trading out of the 2nd pick is an option. With as bad as they were last season, trading back for more picks makes complete sense.
Whoever ends up making the 2nd pick, it looks as though 1 of 4 players will be the selection, so here are the likely suspects;
Thomas Robinson is a 6’9″ physical and athletic power forward from Kansas that will be able to step in and immediately help on the boards. His offensive game is improving and will continue to do so at the next level.
Florida shooting guard Bradley Beal stands 6’5″ and has the complete offensive package with good range on his jumper and the ability to attack the rim off the dribble. He’ll rebound from the 2 spot and he has high basketball IQ.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is an athletic, defensive minded, rebounder, that only has to work out his jump shot mechanics. His good size (6’8″ 233lbs) and explosiveness allows him to get to the rim. He will be the 2nd Kentucky player to go in the first 5 picks.
North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes is a 6’8″ small forward that will bring good perimeter shooting to who ever drafts him. He’ll need to add some bulk to his 228 pounds, but he has the work ethic to do so.
Expect some shuffling at the top of the draft as there are a handful of teams looking to move into the lottery.
