Yesterday in a close 108-105 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves did what only NBA legend Moses Malone could do on the court.
He has a current 51 consecutive game double-double streak. On most nights Love puts over 20 points on the board and usually grabs around 15 rebounds, but in order to get a double-double only 10 of each stat category is necessary.
Only 10 points and 10 rebounds seem easy for a player who is almost 7 feet tall in a league where most of the players are less than 6’8, but it is not! Big names players like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O’Neal, Dwight Howard, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Bill Russell and Charles “the round mound of rebound” Barkley couldn’t get 51 double-doubles consecutively. These players are some of the best big men to ever play in the NBA, most of which are on the all-time lists in points, rebounds, and blocks.
Love was the replacement all-star for 7’6 centre Yao Ming from the Rockets this year. Love has certainly earned the all-star title and will try to pass the 6th highest point scorer and 5th highest rebounder of all time on Wednesday March 9th.
