10 Easter Eggs You Might Have Missed In The Defenders

After two years and five seasons of television, Marvel's The Defenders is finally here. The eight episode miniseries unites the stars of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist for the first time. Naturally, it also follows in the footsteps of those shows by featuring a lot of tantalizing easter eggs, references and callbacks.

1) Daredevil Is Born Again

The final scene of The Defenders reveals that Matt Murdock survived and is recuperating in what looks to be the orphanage run by nuns that he grew up in after his father died. This scene is a major one as it practically 100% confirms what form Daredevil season 3 will take.

Going by what we see here, it looks like the third season will adapt the seminal “Born Again” comic book storyline by Frank Miller. Firstly, the symbolism of the scene is all about Matt being resurrected, or born again, after narrowly averting death.

Also, part of that plot arc sees Matt being nursed back to health by Sister Maggie – who’s referenced here (“Get Maggie,” says one of the nuns). Spoiler warning – Maggie is revealed to be Matt’s mother in the comics, who became a nun after separating from Matt’s dad.

Matt also comes perilously close to accidentally revealing his secret identity in The Defenderswhich is another significant part of “Born Again.” All we’ll say is that Matt might be about to regret telling Karen his secret…
