The 10 Best Superhero TV Moments Of 2016

Superhero movies might have received a mixed reception in 2016, but comic book television has never been better. Both Marvel and DC expanded their respective shared universes outwards this past year and in just about every case, superhero TV shows reached a good balance between pilfering from the comic books and adapting the material to best fit the new medium. Series like Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl finally found their feet, others like Arrow got back on track and those like The Flash and Daredevil continued their winning streaks.

Supergirl‘s second season – the first to air on The CW with the rest of the Greg Berlanti-produced shows – kicked off with a bang, as none other than Kara’s cousin Superman popped by for a two-episode guest spot.

His introductory scene in the show was pure joy for any Superman fan, as Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent immediately gave off Christopher Reeve vibes – what with his old-fashioned phrases and chirpy, humble demeanour. Then, as a plane heads towards National City, the classic shirt-rip transformation occurs and Superman leaps up, up and away into action – joining Kara in an all-star team-up.

For fans left unsatisfied by Henry Cavill’s mopey Man of Steel in the movies, Supergirl offered a brilliant back-to-the-classics approach to the Last Son of Krypton. Mainly, it was just nice to have a Superman who wasn’t afraid to smile. Let’s hope Hoechlin flies back to the show very soon.
