24: Legacy Casts Homeland’s Miranda Otto As Female Lead

After an impressive stint on Homeland, Miranda Otto has now landed a leading role in 24: Legacy. News that Fox are rebooting the franchise, which starred Kiefer Sutherland as CTU agent Jack Bauer, has been met with a mixed response so far, especially as there are no plans for Bauer - whose story was not satisfyingly wrapped up in 24: Live Another Day - to return here.

After an impressive stint on Homeland, Miranda Otto has now landed a leading role in 24: Legacy. News that Fox are rebooting the franchise, which starred Kiefer Sutherland as CTU agent Jack Bauer, has been met with a mixed response so far, especially as there are no plans for Bauer – whose story was not satisfyingly wrapped up in 24: Live Another Day – to return here.

Regardless, Otto is playing Rebecca Ingram, a character who is described as the blazing smart former head of CTU. Now married to Senator John Donovan, Rebecca is struggling with second thoughts about having left the counterterrorism agency. How she’s going to factor into the series isn’t clear, though it sounds like her role in 24: Legacy will be a pivotal one.

Written by 24 veterans Manny Coto and Evan Katz, and directed by Stephen Hopkins (who helmed the original 24 pilot way back in 2001), 24: Legacy revolves around a military hero’s return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back – compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

With no plans for original 24 characters to show up in 24: Legacy, it’s going to be interesting to see if it’s able to stand on its own two feet. Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins is the only other confirmed cast member as of now, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
