6) Can Elliot Ever Overcome Mr. Robot?
As Mr. Robot himself points out in the finale, he is Elliot, so it’s important to remember that while we spend a lot of time with a man seemingly struggling to do the right thing, his dominant personality is essentially that of a murderous sociopath willing to do anything and everything to bring down E-Corp.
Something we’ve learned throughout the first two seasons is that Elliot can’t control Mr. Robot, and it becomes clear in this episode that he’s been getting up to an awful lot we didn’t know about as he secretly plots Phase 2 with the Dark Army and Tyrell Wellick.
[zergpaid]However, after being shot by Tyrell (with the gun Mr. Robot gave him apparently with the intention of doing just that should Elliot try and stop the plan), we see Mr. Robot beginning to flicker out of existence as Elliot loses consciousness.
While it’s fair to say that he won’t be going anywhere – Christian Slater is just too good for that – could this be a sign that the trauma has gotten rid of him for now? Either way, the question of how Elliot can exert control over this alternate personality and stop his machinations will likely remain a focus of the series for the foreseeable future.
