Paul Abbott is a critically acclaimed English writer, most known for his work on Coronation Street and Shameless. He is also a friend of Russell T. Davies, and almost wrote an episode of Doctor Who that would’ve taken the place of Boom Town from the first series. But that’s not the interesting bit, it’s what Abbott had planned for his episode that caught our interest. According to Davies, the episode would’ve revealed that Rose was an experiment bred by the Doctor in order to create the perfect companion.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), Abbott was too busy with his other commitments to fully develop the episode, and we got the excellent Boom Town instead. But if that had happened, the show would’ve gone in a completely different direction, and I’m certain that nothing would be the same as it is now.
