Breaking Bad might be gone, but it’s in no way forgotten. In the years since it left the air, AMC has commissioned a spinoff in the form of Better Call Saul. Now two seasons in, with a third on the way, it’s proven to be an enjoyable and well executed show, though it’s still to reach the heights that its predecessor did back in its heyday. Still, it’s been getting better and better as time goes on and its upcoming third outing looks to be its best yet.
We already know that Gus Fring will be showing up when Better Call Saul returns this spring, but we’re still waiting on cameos from characters like Jesse Pinkman and, of course, Walter White. We’ve been teased that Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston might cameo for a while now and while it still hasn’t happened, it looks like something may eventually materialize on the third season.
During an appearance on The Ellen Show, Paul was asked about the possibly of reprising his role on Better Call Saul, and while he didn’t give a concrete answer, what he said was definitely intriguing:
“God, I hope so…Maybe I already shot it. We just — or they just — wrapped the [latest] season.”
Cue the speculation train! The actor may just be messing around with fans, but there’s always the chance that he accidentally slipped up. Even if it’s the former, he’s clearly interested in returning at some point and it’s really just a matter of time before he does show up. At least, we’d imagine that’s the case. It makes sense that Better Call Saul would want to establish itself as its own show before bringing in other Breaking Bad characters, but now that it’s done just that, there’s no reason why Jesse and Walt can’t show up for a brief cameo.
We say ‘brief’ because neither character would add a whole lot to the series. While it would undoubtedly send excitement through the roof to see them on the show, having them appear in any kind of extended role just wouldn’t make sense given that they didn’t know Saul when Breaking Bad started. As such, it’s hard to imagine how exactly this can even be pulled off in the first place, but there’s definitely a way to make it happen, and if Paul is to be believed, it may have already gone down.
Thankfully, with the third season of Better Call Saul premiering on April 10th, we don’t have too much longer to go now before we find out if this is finally the year that Jesse and Walt appear.
